Yes, you are eligible. But make sure you should have minimum 55% aggregate marks (for General category) or 50% aggregate marks (for OBC/SC/ST/PwD category). In UGC NET exam you can appear only on the basis of your post graduation courses. So, you can apply in History for UGC NET Exam. If you want to apply for JRF than your age must not more than 30 years. For assistant professor there is no upper age limit.

Yes, It is essential to clear masters degree to become eligible for UGC NET Exam. Make sure you also meet the other required eligibility criteria to apply for the NET Exam. Here is the required eligibility criteria to appear in NET Exam - Candidates who pursued masters and got 55% aggregate marks (5% relaxation for SC/STOBC/PWD/Transgenders) are eligible to appear in UGC NET Exam. The Ph.D degree holders whose masters level exam had been completed by 19th Sept 1991 will also get 5% relaxation in required aggregate marks for appearing in NET Exam. There is no age limit for those who are going to apply for the post of Assistant Professor. Candidates who are going to apply for JRF should not cross 30 years of their age to be eligible for NET Exam. Age relaxation is available for SC/ST/OBC/PWD and Transgenders.
