You usually have to give an undertaking that your admission will stand cancelled if you don't clear compartment exams. Other than that as far as I can remember only NLSUI Bangalore and 1-2 NLUs ask for marks in first attempt. For most NLUs you could apply, at least in 2011. You should probably consult the CLAT brochure or website for the latest eligibility criteria.
