BCA-Bachelor of computer application is a 3 year degree program that helps one build the fundamentals of the computer application with detailed knowledge of computer language programming and application. BCA is a job oriented degree course and you can go for a job immediately after BCA in small and medium-sized IT companies. Unfortunately, Indian IT industry does not prefer BCA for entry level Developer and Testers roles. BCA graduates may get a junior developer or application support jobs. Indian IT industry prefers regular BCA candidates over candidates with BCA by distance learning. However, once candidates get 3 to 4 years experience, type of degree does not matter much. Candidates who have completed BCA by distance learning from a recognised university are eligible to seek admission in regular MCA. MCA and M.Sc computer science/IT graduates are treated on par with B.Tech computer science and B.Sc IT graduates for application development and maintenance jobs in Indian IT industry. For a long-term and meaningful career, it is advisable to do MCA from a prestigious college or university.
