You can give exam of IMU (Indian Marine University). It contain 4 sections including physics, chemistry, maths and GK. Through IMU, you can get government colleges in India. In IMU, there are several courses: 1. B.Tech marine engineer 2. B.Tech navel and ocean engineering 3. B.Sc marine (captain of ship) Top colleges in India: 1. IMU, Vishakapatnam 2. IMU, Kolkata 3. IMU, Mumbai If you get one of these three colleges, then only apply for marine because other colleges are not in terms of placements. To get these colleges, you have to score rank under 500.

First, appear for IMUCET, if you are planning for marine engineering in IMU or it’s affiliated institutes. B.Tech Marine Engineering is good course. For those who feel it is okay to stay away from your home. Those who want to settle in future with a strong financial Background, good career growth etc. now there are a lot institutes offering B.Tech in Marine Engineering. But, don't fall into traps of those colleges who wants to cheat you. Select colleges which offer 100% placement. I am mentioning some colleges here: Samundra Institute, Mumbai Tolani MERI-Mumbai MERI-Kolkata AMET.IMU-Chennai etc. But, I will say if your ultimate dream is to become a marine engineer, first pursue B.Tech in mechanical engineering, and then pursue GME ( Graduate In Marine Engineering). It is a course of 1year duration, which is equivalent to B.Tech Marine Engineering. Many reputed institutions like: Anglo Eastern Maritime Academy. Samundra Institute of Maritime Studies. AMET. These institutes conduct GME courses with 100% placement. For B.Tech Mechanical Engineering, you need to score 60% marks overall to apply for GME. Now coming into deeper, this is a long process studying career. Pursuing B.Tech in marine engineering successfully will make you eligible for obtaining CDC. Then, you can sail in FG ship as a junior engineer. In this career, for each promotion you have to clear various examination put forward by the DG Shipping, India. For a marine engineer rank progression is like the following: Junior engineer Fourth engineer Third engineer Second engineer Chief engineer For each promotion, you need to clear various examinations like class 4th, class 3rd, etc. Examinations conducted by DG Shipping with other refreshing or familersing courses prescribed by DGS Shipping time to time. IMU is the benchmark for Marine Engineering. IMUCET is the exam you need to appear for. There are various other private colleges too but not as good as IMU.
