Yes, MBA score/marks play a major role in campus placements. Most of the companies look for your marks and grades to screen students and shortlist from those. The most important factor is that a student sometimes may be good in practical work rather than theoretical knowledge. But majority of companies put marks as the criteria of selection. For attending interview most of the well-known companies will ask for minimum 60%.and some companies put this criteria as 70% and above. Some of the companies which look for marks are: 1. TCS 2. L&T 3. Infosys 4. Tech Mahindra 5. KOTAK Mahindra Bank 6. ICICI Prudential, etc. The major reason for this mark as a criteria is to shortlist from bulk of students. Some companies won’t look for marks only the caliber and ability to do work is taken into consideration. Such companies are majority startups.

I strongly believe that whether MBA marks or grade matters in job placements it vary from company to company. Some companies don't give priority to your academic record while some companies set minimum benchmark percentage which every candidate must have so as to apply for the job. What matters is every candidate must have deep knowledge about the field or the area for which he has applied. Interviewer also checks level of confidence of the candidate. Some companies demand good academic record both in your graduation and MBA degree. Sometimes, preference is given to the candidates having deep knowledge, good academic record along with having some years of experience in concerned field. Most critical thing is candidate must not have any backlog in his MBA course as it will restrain the candidate to sit for interview. However, a selection criterion is different in public sector undertakings. PSUS specified minimum level of percentage which every candidate must have to apply for the job. Thus PSUS specifies minimum eligibility criteria. Along with it, every candidate has to qualify common entrance exam to get selected.
