If placements are what you are looking for then be assured, you are at the right place as almost everyone gets placed in the college unless someone's not willing to. It always manages to maintain itself among the top 3 colleges for biotechnology undergraduate course in India. The department has advanced infrastructure facility with modern lab setup for research purpose for those students who are interested. Few of the core companies that come up during placements season are Dr. Reddy's lab and Nestle, which offers moderate to high packages but with very less intake of students. Other than that, almost everyone gets placed in some or other IT company, marketing firm or BPO. With this, one can expect an average placement package of 3 to 3.5 lacs and highest placement package of 7 lacs. Note that for placement in the core companies visiting the college, you need to be among the top 10 students of your batch to stand a chance. For increasing your prospects any further, you should consider doing Masters from a reputed college abroad. I hope this helps.

The biotechnology engineering is a new stream relatively in India but is now able to make its scope due to the rapid growth of healthcare services and advanced technology. SASTRA University is a private university, but is well established and relatively old. When it comes to biotechnology, there is an average placement of around 3 to 4 LPA based on your knowledge and skills. Most of the people get into the private companies related to the healthcare sector, some go for higher studies and precisely for research and some opt to set up their own clinic. Biotechnology is, however, a very nice combination of biology and technology where it finds a wide applications in foreign and in modern India, but for getting a high placement, one must have extraordinary skills and knowledge about the stream to get into a renowned corporate or for getting into research field with any prestigious government or private institution. The placement record of Sastra University stands tall at an astonishing 95%, where the students not placed are the ones who choose to go for higher studies. There is no student who could not get placed here, unless the person is unwilling. For Biotechnology students, the companies visiting the campus include: Chemtex Engineering India Ltd. Biocon Madras Homeo Laboratories Madras Fertilizer Ltd. Krebs Biochemicals Ltd. J.K. Pharma Chemical Ltd. Johnson and Johnson Ranbaxy Chemicals Ltd. and many more. There are various Information Technology (IT) companies as well, who recruit students of Biotechnology as IT professionals. These companies include: Software Technologies Pvt. Ltd. Satyam Computers Ltd. HCL Technologies Ltd. Cognizant Technology Systems Ltd. Wipro Technologies Ltd. Oracle India Ltd. Accenture IBM Ramco Systems and a lot more. The average salary package ranges from 4.5 - 6 lakhs while the highest package has been offered by PayPal - 29 lakh per annum. There's a funny saying if you get admit into SASTRA, you are a future TCS employee. Sastra doesn't release its placement statistics, so the below information is based on what its students said on sites like Quora. Every year, atleast 80% of all engineering students get into TCS. And, some companies are CGPA biased. Above 8.0 or 8.5 will allow you to sit in some good companies like Ashok Leyland, EBay, etc. So, get above 8.0 and it's almost a guarantee that you’ll get a job. SASTRA has atleast 100+ companies as regular recruiters. There's no way that an average talented guy can go without an offer. Regarding the package also, yes, we have AMAZON, PAYPAL, THOROGOOD, CISCO, MICROSOFT who are paying between 11 LPA TO 24 LPA. All you need to crack amazon or PayPal is pure skill in coding or programming with a minimum CGPA of 7.5. Speaking of average package, we have a pot including ZOHO, GOFRUGAL, MUSIGMA, IBM, INAUTIX, FRESH DESK, BYJUS, TVS, HYUNDAI, HONEYWELL etc. Who are giving a package between 4LPA to 6 LPA. Most companies in this list don't have stringent eligibility criteria. SASTRA University is located in Thanjavur and it is accredited by NAAC. It is ranked 65 in the list of top colleges of India by 'the week'. It offers many courses out of which Biotechnology is the course in which it offers about 60 seats to students. It is well known for its good infrastructure knowledgeable faculty with experience of teaching and many facilities like Wi-Fi Sports Complex and labs with better equipments and machines. Sastra University is known for its research in biotechnology but it cannot be compared to IIT or NIT research. But somehow it manages to be in top 3 rank in terms of research in biotechnology. Department of biotechnology in Sastra University has well equipped machines and equipments in the Labs. And many of the students do research in these Labs Few of the core companies that come up during placements season are Dr. Reddy's lab and Nestle, which offers moderate to high packages but with very less intake of students. About 10% students of biotechnology gets place in the core companies and get salary about 7 lakh per annum. Where is rest of the students are placed into mass recruiter IT companies like TCS, Accenture,etc. With the average salary of 3 lakh per annum. Hope it helps.
