IIT Kanpur is a prestigious institute that comes under the top three IITs (as per recent years record). The most preferred branches from IIT Kanpur are CSE, aerospace and chemical. Though, the best college for chemical one may find in IIT Madras, but IIT Kanpur is also no less than that. The placement data shows an average placement of 13 lakh per annum, whereas the highest being 22 lakhs and the lowest being 7 lakhs. The most interesting part of the academic curriculum in IIT Kanpur is its academic trips which one MUST be a part of being a part of the institution. For example, every year, IIT Kanpur takes its students of aerospace branch to Germany for the live image of the propellers and the working of the aerodynamics vehicles such as plane, rockets, jet planes, etc. Therefore, one may expect a skillful learning experience with the elite life of IIT. IIT, Kanpur is one of best established IIT. Basic main courses that you will be studying in Chemical Engineering Department are:- 1) Thermodynamics (2 courses) 2) Fluid Mechanics (2 Courses) 3) Chemical Reaction Engineering 4) Introduction to Manufacturing process 5) Heat and Mass Transfer. IIT, Kanpur curriculum is very flexible and offers a lot of freedom to choose subjects that you would like to study. But having been here for three years, you can be sure that no matter which department you join, you will find your niche at the end of four years (or at least, find the courage to look for it). Whether it is Chemical Engineering, or in entrepreneurship, finance, programming). The prospects (of both jobs and higher studies) are crazy and can only be understood once you've spent a considerable amount of time in the department. The average package that core companies offer is around Rs 6 lakhs per annum, although it is a little bit higher in the non-core profile jobs (typically around Rs 8 lakhs per annum).
