Placement for CSE (Bioinformatics) is not that good at VIT for the core companies. Generally, most of the software and IT companies allow CSE (Bioinformatics) students to sit for placement and many people ultimately get into IT sector. But then what is the point behind taking Bioinformatics. Generally speaking, bioinformatics is mostly a research based field so core jobs are related to research and companies don't think that some graduate with some knowledge of bioinformatics can do some fruitful research. But placement in terms of percent is pretty decent. Almost all students will get placed generally in IT companies. The highest package offered was around 8 lacs by Agilent. There may have been a few others who offered around 4-5. Mostly were 3.5 or below though, and most BioInfo / BioTech students got placed in IT companies like CTS, Wipro and Accenture.
