Some students also find jobs in banking, consulting and finance industries as well as marketing roles in Technology and Telecommunication sector. IIT-Roorkee is one of the old IITs and one of the well-reputed institutes in India, so you don't have to worry about placements. According to the NIRF's ranking, it is ranked at 6th position which is really impressive. Let's go through its placement report of 2016-17 for Electrical engineering. The total percentage of placed students from EE is around 73% (this is low because the calculations also include students who opted out of placements for higher studies or some other reasons. If we neglect those students it will be above 85%). Going forward, around 22% of the placed students got into core jobs which is really a good metric. Around 65% got into IT jobs while around 13% got into consulting/finance jobs. The average CTC for EE was around 13.41 LPA which again is a good metric. So, the placement scenario looks good for EE in IIT-Roorkee as such. Don't join any branch or college just because of its placements. Try to find what you are passionate about and pursue that branch. Electrical engineering is one of the most popular engineering courses in India as it is a core branch and has been one of the main driving forces of high technology over the past few decades. Electrical engineering is swiftly growing not only within core areas such as wireless communications and mobile technologies but also in other spaces such as nanotechnology, biotechnology, and biomedical engineering. Some of the core companies which visit for placement are Qualcomm, Intel, Ericsson, NVidia, Analog Devices Ltd, Broadcom, Cisco systems, Cosmic circuits, Ericsson India Global Services, Eaton technologies, IBM, Schneider Electric etc. Electrical engineering students typically find jobs in core electrical engineering companies such as Intel, Qualcomm or in conglomerates such as Reliance industries, TATA technologies, Microsoft, etc. that have an electronics division. Some students also find jobs in banking, consulting and finance industries as these sectors need students with strong quantitative skills, it is totally their choice. Students who are unable to find jobs in core areas move towards software and IT industry. The average package is about 13 lac per annum in the core sector and the about 89% students get placed.

The placements in IIT, Roorkee are remarkable for electrical engineering. The placement stats follow a regular or less fluctuating scale of around Rs 9 lakhs to Rs 10 lakhs per annum. Also, the highest package is upto Rs 50 lakhs to Rs 60 lakhs per annum in a multinational corporate. The remarkable placement stats come from the outstanding teaching culture and academic atmosphere and a learning environment created there. Every year many companies visit the Roorkee campus for various recruitment drives and for extracting the best and most hardworking minds. For that as a gesture of advice, one must particularly should focus on himself or herself by using the resources provided in the college and also by creating resources by sustainable learning of the curriculum and gaining knowledge about it. Also one of the most important factors that work is the interview performance. Thanks. Hope it helped.

Out of total 163 students in a batch of electrical engineering in IIT Roorkee 148 students registered for placements out of which 111 students got placed which brings the total batch placement percentage to 75%. Being an IIT it offers you the best placements in the country but it also suffers from the fact that college is not placed in a metro city due to which lot many local companies are unable to show up at the college during the placement season. The average placement package for electrical engineering branch in IIT, Roorkee for the year 2015 was around Rs 8.9 lakh which is really high in comparison to other colleges present in India. Also, the highest placement package offered to the student in the same rank that is Rs 38.9 lakhs in a core electrical company but it only took a handful of students. Therefore if you are considering to take up electrical engineering at IIT, Roorkee it is a sure yes from my side as it would never disappoint you when it comes to placements. I hope this answers your question.
