IIT Madras is one of the well reputed institutions in India and one of the old IITs. So it attracts lots of good companies for placements and the statistics are pretty good as such. For 2016, for Engineering Physics, 16 students registered for placements out of which 10 were placed (BE). The percentage of students placed was 62.5 percent as such. The packages offered for Engineering Physics students were in the range between 6 LPA to 21 LPA. The average package was between 6-8 LPA (approx). Many students also opted for roles in Management, Finance and Consulting. Although IITs are known for its excellence and remarkable work to serve the quality and skilled students. But still, the engineering physics, when seen from the academic perspective, is marvelous. The students find and enjoy a lot when it comes to research and advance studies which can be seen obvious from the southern culture of academics linked with IIT Madras. The placements are not so remarkable for the undergraduate to meet up to the level of the core branches but opens a bundle of opportunities when pursued master and PG degree. The statics for undergraduates reveals the average placement of Rs 10 lakhs while the highest can be upto Rs 25 lakhs in a research organization and teaching institution and most accepted coaching institution. The Placement Office is the nodal point of contact for companies to interact with IIT Madras. The Office is well equipped and is designed to smoothly handle and support the placement process at all stages. Infrastructure for pre-placement talks, written tests, group discussions and personal interviews is available. The following are the facilities to aid the process: Auditoriums to conduct pre-placement talks and written tests. Well-furnished air conditioned rooms to conduct interviews and group discussions. Fully computerized office. Student volunteers to assist on the day of the visit. Placement process is quite smooth. You need to register with the placement cell which maintains a personalized website listing all the companies, their BIOS, package details and examination information. After clearing exams conducted by the companies, interviews are conducted. The average no. of companies which come for engineering physics dept. is around 20. The average salary package will be 8-10 LPA. Companies of many different streams do come for the placements.
