NITs are the premier institutes for engineering after the IITs. NIT Surathkal is one of the top NITs and is known across the India. According to the National Institutional, ranking framework NIT, Surathkal ranks 22nd among the engineering colleges in India. For information technology engineering, last time (2016-17) out of 88 students who applied for placements from IT department 84 students were placed meaning 95.45 percent placement for IT which is quite an impressive number. For IT the minimum salary offered was Rs 4.3 lakhs per annum. The average salary was Rs 11.27 lakhs per annum and the maximum salary was Rs 25 lakhs per annum. All these figures suggest pretty good placements at NIT, Surathkal.

NIT-Surathkal ranks 3rd for placements by NASSCOM in the year 2016 and also ranks 22 by NIRF since last two years.
