If you are mentioning BE for the educational qualification, then trust me it is not at all required. Whereas, since you are a Mechanical Engineer you might be faster in picking up Technical Concepts of AIRCRAFT. To be a pilot, you require to clear 10+2 with PCM, thereafter enroll into any flying club, which will take care of the rest including your SPL (Student Pilot License). Best of Luck.

To become a commercial pilot: You need to first possess a student pilot license. You must be over 17 years of age and have completed class 12th with science (Physics and mathematics) with 50%. Your vision in one eye must be perfect. In general medical terminology, it is called 6/6 eyesight. In the other eye, you could have an imperfection of 6/9, which must be correctable to 6/6. General physical fitness is mandatory. You must be free of any disease that can hamper normal function. You need to register at a flying club which is recognized by Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Government of India. Next is private pilot license which includes sixty hours of flying. A commercial pilot licence can be obtained only after a PPL and 250 hours of flying. Some of the institutes offering commercial pilot training are: 1. Academy of Carver Aviation Private Limited – Pune. 2. All India Institute of Aeronautics – Dehradun. 3. Center for Civil Aviation Training (CCAT) – Delhi. 4. Glorietta Aviation – Ghaziabad. 5. Fly Wings Aviation Pvt. Ltd. – Mumbai. For more, you can refer to the link mentioned below.

You can become a commercial pilot by acquiring proper training from flying club or academy and getting endorsement from DGCA, As far as the course is concerned you should have PCM combination Physics and maths in 10 +2 with 50% is mandatory and you may required to appear in entrance exams too, cost of training may be 35-45 Lacs.

Ideally, you should not be going to become q pilot after BE as your BE would be of no use and the years taken to complete your BE would be wasted. If you are interested in aeronautics then do your post-graduation in that specialty field.
