A fashion designer needs to be very creative and innovative, having a different set of ideas. Qualifying an entrance exam and taking admission in some design college is not enough. If you really wanna make the field of fashion as your profession and you feel that you have an aptitude towards the fashion sense and you've got that flare of jumping out of the box to try something new then you can definitely go for this field. Coming to the academic part, there are many courses offered in the field of fashion. For example, fashion designing, fashion communication, accessories designing, footwear design, automobile design and many more. You need to choose from the various courses offered. Not only the category in the course, but the degree itself varies in many colleges like BA (Bachelor of Arts) in fashion designing, B.Voc (Bachelor of Vocation) in fashion designing, B.Des (Bachelor of Design) in the course you choose, Diploma, etc. The salary packages differ according to the course you do and the college from where you graduate. NIFT and NID are the king of design colleges where every design student aspires to be. These colleges have good placements. From NIFT, the average package is 4.5 or 5 LPA (Lacs per annum). From NID, the average package is 14 or 15 LPA (after Bachelor's degree itself) and other private colleges have different packages. Even after graduating from a standard design college, you can expect a minimum of 40-50 thousand per month salary.

If you think that you have got that creative flare and the drive to emerge as a fashion designer, below is everything you want to know about the fashion and design industry from salary earnings to job outlook and work hours. Who knows, you would possibly turn out to be opening the next Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. Take a leap into the exciting world of fashion designing, wherein, you can harness your creative capability and design clothes you never imagined would be possible. Fashion designing has become highly competitive these days. In case, you want to pursue a profession in this industry, you may work harder and expand numerous different skills. It isn't always only about getting a Bachelors in fashion design, however, also about visual arts, general design and even graphic design knowledge, that is, if you really want to excel. If you fancy embarking on a career as a fashion designer, but don't want to spend three to four years at college before doing so, you'll be pleased to learn that a degree is not required to break into the profession, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (See Reference 1). If you've got enough raw talent and have picked up the basic skills necessary to secure an entry-level position in the fashion industry, there's a good chance you'll be able to make it without a Bachelor's or an Associate's degree. You can expect an average salary of 20-30K per month initially and rest it all depends on your portfolio. All the best.
