Apply for NDA exam, which is conducted twice a year. Get through exam, SSB interview, PABT, Medical, and merit, then you will get a call letter for NDA. Spend three years, as air Force cadet and then spend another 1 and half year at AFA, you are ready to go now. All the best.

You can join flying branch either after completing class 12th or after a graduation degree. Students can appear for NDA examination conducted twice a year by UPSC after class 12th with PCM to become a fighter pilot. After NDA, cadets joins IAF to become a pilot. Any graduate or engineer can join the flying branch in the Indian Air Force subject to meet the other criterion. The following are the three modes of entry for graduates/engineers to join the flying branch: 1. Combined Defence Services Examination (For men only): CDS examination is conducted by UPSC twice a year. The eligibility criteria to appear for CDS is age between 20 to 24 years, single males and three-year degree graduate in any discipline from a recognised university (With physics and mathematics at class 12th), BE/B.Tech. The advertisements are released by UPSC in the month of June and November. 2. NCC special entry: As an Air Wing Senior Division C Certificate holder of the National Cadet Corps, cadets can apply to the Flying Branch of the Indian Air Force. The men can join the Air Force through this mode of entry and will be given a permanent commission. The remaining eligibility criteria are same as CDS entry. NCC cadets are to apply through respective NCC Air Squadrons/DG NCC. 3. Short Service Commission entry: Graduates, both men and women who are single can apply through AFCAT for Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Flying branch. Short Service Commission in flying branch is for 14 years with no further extension. The remaining eligibility criteria are same as CDS. The upper age limit for candidates holding valid and current Commercial Pilot Licence issued by DGCA (India) is relaxed up to 26 years. The advertisements for AFCAT are released by the IAF in the month of June and December. After one year of training at AFA on government expenses distribution between fighter, transport and helicopter stream is decided.
