Aircraft Maintenance Engineer AME is a technical course in which a student learns about checking of aircraft parts, engines, components and maintain the aircraft. This field is most important in the view of safety purpose of the passenger as these engineers check the proper functioning of the plane. AME plays a crucial role in the smooth running of this system. For becoming AME, a student must pass their class 12th exam with physics and mathematics as the main subjects with at least 50% marks in this exam. For joining Diploma in AME, a student can directly join a college and admission is done on the merit basis. There is no exam policy for admission in Diploma AME. This is a 3-year (6-semester) course. For joining B.Tech in AME, a student can appear in the AMEEE exam and have to score better in the exam for getting admission in various college for this course. As AME maintain and helps in smooth running of flight, there is a need for these engineers. So, the demand for this field will never decrease. Many companies give jobs to these graduates such as Air India, IndiGo, Spice Jet, Jet Airways and many more. Starting salary of these engineers is Rs 5 lakhs per annum but it increases up to double in a few years.

In today's competitive world, it is very necessary to do proper research on what field one selects for higher education as there is a rat race for competitive jobs. With the boom in the aviation industry, choosing to become an AME would be a good option with thousands of new job openings coming up with the growth of new regonal airlines under the UDAN scheme and also because of the rise of the budget airlines or the LCCs. There are two type of licences that can be issued, namely the BAMEC or the Basic aircraft maintenance engineer's certificate and the AME or the Aircraft maintenance engineer's licence. DGCA lists the follwing requirements for a person to become an AME: 1) Basic Aircraft Maintenance Engineer's Certificate The applicant shall not be less than 20 years age; The applicant must have passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics or any other equivalent qualification acceptable to DGCA; He must have passed papers I, II and III written examinations. He must have at least three years practical aeronautical engineering experience in the field allied to the subject for which BAMEC is sought, He shall produce a certificate from an MBBS doctor indicating that he does not have any physical disability and colour blindness. 2) Aircraft Maintenance Engineer's Licence The applicant shall not be less than 21 years of age; He must have passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics or any other equivalent qualification acceptable to DGCA; He shall have passed papers I, II and III written examination and also paper IV approved course on the specific aircraft/engine/systems; He shall have passed the necessary oral-cum-practical examination; He shall produce a medical certificate from an MBBS doctor that he doesnot have any physical disability or colour blindness; He shall possess a minimum practical experience of four years in the field of aircraft maintenance engineering. An AME can expect a starting salary of 25k-40k INR depending on the airline he gets selected for and the salary can go upto INR 1 lakh or even more based on seniority.

To become an aircraft maintenance engineer, you need to select any aviation institution. And these courses are for three years, In India, the starting salary of aircraft maintenance engineers will be upto 1 Lacs initially but experienced AME can get more than 1 Lacs per month.
