Preparation can be of three types: self, self plus coaching, coaching. It depends on whether you are a working professional or a student. So, if you are working you have to prepare either by self-using the correspondence booklets or you can take the option of taking weekend coaching classes. Also, you can buy some famous books used for the preparation of MBA entrance exams. But if you are a student then you have a good amount of time to prepare. So you can use the correspondence course and books initially for self-preparation and later can join coaching classes for brushing up your preparation with added techniques. So, any MBA entrance exam has generally three sections- quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning & data interpretation and verbal reasoning along with the study of general current affairs. So, depending on your strengths, weakness and speed, prepare the three sections accordingly and nail the exam. So prepare as per your flexibility and crack the exam.

Cracking IIFT in 1 year. IIFT doesn't keep in mind academics, true enough. The calls are based on the scores in the entrance test. So, you can start preparing. You will have to prepare Quantitative aptitude, Logical reasoning and General knowledge. It is likely that each section will have sectional cut-offs so better prepare each and every subject. Study material from any coaching institute should do the task. A decent test series should cement your preparation bit. Try to build up speed in solving as questions are many and time isn't much. Coming to GD and PI (and Essay writing), you can prepare for that after the written exam, should you make it to there. You will have around 2 months. Join a coaching institute for the interview and GD preparation, that will help, but invest these 4 months for the test preparation only.

The key to this hard work which includes adequate studies, a good amount of discussion amongst your friends who are preparing or the same field, a good coaching as to how to write the exam and regular practice to increase the speed of answering the questions. Mock tests help a lot.
