As an IIFT alumnus and someone who scored 99percentile in the entrance exam, I can give you the following pointers: 1. Cover your fundamentals- Like CAT, IIFT focuses a lot on on the core concepts of QA/VA/LR and DI. So, do know the CBSE textbooks and find your strong and weak areas (2 months) 2. Once you have been able to spot your strength and weakness, you need to give adequate time to your weak topics so that you can solve the easy questions from those topics- say around 30% of the questions. So, use books like Quantum CAT by Arun Sharma to practice questions from these topics. (2 months) 3. Time management- IIFT has sectional cutoff for all its sections. Hence, it is paramount to focus on all sections. For that, you need to analyze your speed and allot time for each section so that you can clear those sectional cutoffs. (After the first two months) 4. GK- GK section of IIFT is quite elaborate and is a deal breaker for many aspirants. Most aspirants take this section for granted, but I feel 15 minutes a day for 6 months can help you ace this section (All 6 months) 5. In the last one month before the entrance, you need to take IIFT based mocks, to have a feel of the exam. Do take the mocks seriously and time yourself.

The IIFT written test has multiple choice objective type test of two hours and the test areas over the last few years have been Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation, Reading Comprehension, Verbal Ability, Logical Reasoning and General Awareness. Here are few tips to prepare for IIFT: 1. Prepare the key concepts of Arithmetic, Algebra, and Geometry & Modern Maths in the Quantitative Ability section in a thorough manner. 2. To tackle the Verbal Ability section, one has to focus on improving one's reading speed because the paper typically features 3-4 reading comprehensions. 3. You should prepare the basics of grammar in order to solve sentence correction questions. Practice is required to solve usage-based questions like analogy, fill in the blanks, etc. 4. It is advisable to practice different data interpretation question types like pie charts, bar graphs, data tables, line charts & combinations thereof for the DI section. 5. General Awareness is an environment-sensitive area and requires familiarity with both static and current components of the environment. For static GK, one should focus on topics like history, geography, economics, political system, etc. All the best.

One year is a good time to prepare for IIFT test. Candidate should stay focused right from the day one. Most of the topics will be covered if you are preparing for CAT as well. Start preparing General Knowledge side by side. As you have twelve month for the final preparation, you can divide the time into two parts. Phase-1 you can start covering the syllabus and cover different methods, tips and tricks to solve variety of problems. Try to finish the syllabus in initial seven to eight months and keep the rest for revision. Phase 2 is when you start your revision part. Try solving mocks paper as much as possible this will lead to more accuracy as you learn from your mistakes. Be focused and calm. For the last month keep all the formulas and tricks handy and revise on a daily basis. Remember not to be emotional while solving or appearing for exam. Manage your time wisely.
