Tata Institute of Social Sciences National Entrance Test TISSNET is conducted by Tata Institute of Social Sciences. The exam is conducted for all Master's degree programmes offered by TISS. The questions are asked from: 1) General Awareness 2) English proficiency 3) logical reasoning 4) Maths As you have 6 months’ time, the following tips would be useful : A) For English section, it is essential to read the newspapers, magazines and articles so that you can improve your vocabulary skills by looking for new words. It would also improve reading skills and would avoid grammar mistakes. You may also refer to good books like Wren and Martin which would contain enough amount of information to excel in English. B) For Maths and Logical Reasoning section, practice is very important. You need to know the basics of maths very well so as to give your best in this section. Revise the formulae often to keep your associated with it and practice more and more questions. You may refer to the previous year questions which would be helpful for this logical section and yes for the other sections too. C) For General Awareness, there is generally no separate method to prepare. You need to keep yourself updated with the daily events and the current incidents like achievements, politics, health, economy, business, etc.

Based on the section of TISSNET Analytical and Numerical Ability: One can expect a small number of very basic visual reasoning and inferential questions in this section. Also, there may be a set or two consisting of basic DI questions, which you need to answer on the basis of a graph or a pie chart. The remaining questions are quantitative ability questions, not very different to those in the CAT. Language Ability: This section requires you to solve RC passages with most questions being direct. Besides RC, logical arrangement of paragraphs, vocabulary based fill-in-the-blanks, analogies, sentence correction, essence/summary of a paragraph are the kind of questions that have traditionally appeared in this section. The general level of questions is easy. Awareness of General and Social Issues: In the past two years, this section has had general knowledge questions about: United Nations Organization. Indian rivers. Basic historical facts about India. Important Indian monuments. Basic facts and latest numbers about the Indian economy. Recent government initiatives like MNREGA, Mid-day meal scheme etc. Indians who have won prominent international awards. Olympic Games facts. Hope, it helps.

Six months are good enough to prepare for TISSNET if you prepare well and spend quality time during your preparation. First step is to go through the syllabus of the exam. Which is posted in the colleges website or you can go through useful links at Shiksha.com as well. Practice mock CAT question to cover the English, Mathematics and Logical Reasoning. Time your answers as time management is one of the necessary aspects of the test you should be practicing. Prepare well for the exam and set a time limit for each mock you take. Understand the exam pattern, format and syllabus. Work on the areas in which you are weak and enhance your abilities in which you are confident. General Knowledge section is the most important of all in TISSNET. Focus on General Knowledge and Current affairs happened in past one year. Stay focused!
