I see a lots of people worrying about SSC CGL for them its really a big deal. All of this is because of the coaching classes. These classes put more efforts on marking this preparation hard instead of easy. The reality is that it's really simple exam. This year I attempt cgl just for the sake of time pass without any preparation and scored 132.75 in tier1 but as I already said it was just time pass, so I didn't attempted tier 2 as the Center was far away from my home. Now comes to the preparation. GS- most of the questions are static and reading lucent GS is enough. No coaching center can help you in this. One more thing about GS is that no matter how much effort you put in it, you can't guarantee your score as its really vast. Also it's not very useful in tier2 so don't spend too much time here. English- most of the questions are easy. For English, start reading english newspaper or listen to allindiaradio. Apart from that read WORD POWER MADE EASY from norman lewis and wren n martin. These 2 books may not help you directly, but in long term help you to improve english and in turn improves your score. For practice go through General English. For Reading comprehension, SPEED READING is must. Just search on google about it. For quant- Fast Track Arithmatic Reasoning- Verbal and Nonverbal reasoning is enough. The key is practice. The More you practice, better u become. Now most important question, how much time. There is no answer as it depend on how much time you are going to put. For more information go through my previous answer Rohit Agarwal's answer to Is 6 months enough to prepare for SNAP test.
