This is "THE" right question to ask. All your family, friends and everyone you meet will keep telling you to take up a professional career. But which one, you'll ask? Then they'll tell you to go for whatever you have interest in. But how on earth will you know if you have interest in Medical, Social Sciences or Engineering? Now, people will say that you should decide based on career opportunities you will get after pursuing a field and your interest based on the 9th-10th science chapters. While this is not entirely wrong, this will not really give you a clear picture of things. The science of 9th and 10th is a lot different from that of 11th and 12th and entirely different from what you will study in engineering! So how will you know? Initial analysis can be done based on what subjects and chapters you find interesting in your 10th standard. When you know this, consult your seniors as to how those subjects change in higher classes. If the seniors are good enough, ask them to explain you something from their course related to the chapter you like the most. Else, you can find some tuition teacher and take a demo class on that. If you still like it, chances are that you will like the most advanced level of that subject too. I would recommend you watch some "engineering explained" videos on YouTube about that particular topic. If not feasible, you can talk to some senior, relative or some expert here on Shiksha and take a good engineering book on that particular topic that you like. Try to find someone who can explain a little about that to you. Now please note here that you will not be able to understand everything at this stage. Because there are a lot of concept you are yet to learn till you reach college. But this a good way to know whether your mind is willing to give it attention or not. You may not understand but you may find it fascinating! That is nothing but interest. Voila! There you know. Now, when you know which subjects you have interest in, you can ask Shiksha experts or anyone about the field related to that subject. All the best!
