This is "THE" right question to ask. All your family, friends and everyone you meet will keep telling you to take up a professional career. But which one, you'll ask? Then they'll tell you to go for whatever you have interest in. But how on earth will you know if you have interest in Medical, Social Sciences or Engineering? Now, people will say that you should decide based on career opportunities you will get after pursuing a field and your interest based on the 9th-10th science chapters. While this is not entirely wrong, this will not really give you a clear picture of things. The science of 9th and 10th is a lot different from that of 11th and 12th and entirely different from what you will study in engineering! So how will you know? Initial analysis can be done based on what subjects and chapters you find interesting in your 10th standard. When you know this, consult your seniors as to how those subjects change in higher classes. If the seniors are good enough, ask them to explain you something from their course related to the chapter you like the most. Else, you can find some tuition teacher and take a demo class on that. If you still like it, chances are that you will like the most advanced level of that subject too. I would recommend you watch some "engineering explained" videos on YouTube about that particular topic. If not feasible, you can talk to some senior, relative or some expert here on Shiksha and take a good engineering book on that particular topic that you like. Try to find someone who can explain a little about that to you. Now please note here that you will not be able to understand everything at this stage. Because there are a lot of concept you are yet to learn till you reach college. But this a good way to know whether your mind is willing to give it attention or not. You may not understand but you may find it fascinating! That is nothing but interest. Voila! There you know. Now, when you know which subjects you have interest in, you can ask Shiksha experts or anyone about the field related to that subject. All the best!

First of all, mathematics is the base of all parts of engineering. If you are weak in mathematics, then you must think once before opting engineering. Engineering is the field where you apply your knowledge and studied theories. Nowadays, the quality of engineering has been deleting as the students get good grades easily without study. So, if you are sincere student and studies regularly your habits will change automatically if you come in flow of engineering. Some good job opportunities are available if you go through IITs and NITs. These employment as well as involved studies will make you take your decision in right way. Engineering always deals with applications and research is the best thing you can go through engineering if you are having keen interest in it. These research opportunities provides the best engineering capabilities. So, if you are a bright student interested in technical studies and real life applications, you can surely go for engineering. Otherwise, other people are rated as average engineers and unemployed.

Take the aptitude test, it is one of the best test to find out one's interest and strength and weakness and IQ. After taking that you can evaluate yourself. Also, think from your core what you really like or have interest. See, liking is different and passion is different. If you are passionate about engineering then go for it, if not then don't do it. Don't listen to people. Listen to yourself and what you really want to do. You will automatically get answers for whether engineering field is right or wrong. Liking and interest are there but if you can convert it into career depends on your ability to do that. For example, I like photography. This is liking. I can do it quite nicely, this is a skill or aptitude then I can convert it into my career. If a person likes photography but is not able to take a good picture or lack skills for that, so he can't make a career in it. Just because you like something doesn't mean you are made for that. Liking changes from time to time. So, interest, passion, liking and aptitude for doing that matters. If you have passion for something and have required skills and aptitude for that then you should consider that field. Is Engineering right for you or not to get an answer to this question, ask yourself, am I doing it because people, peers and others want me to do it or I am doing it because I like it? If you opted for engineering all by yourself then it is right. Sometimes we feel something is not made for us when we fail. But we have to stand up and Do it. You can also discuss this with your mentor or a good teacher or your good friend.

First, sit and think whether you really feel the urge to study. For example, if you are not able to solve a difficult question of physics what would you do? Will you get irritated or take it as a challenge and you feel that these difficult questions interest you? If you find solving these difficult questions interesting then, of course, engineering is a good option because in the end, the satisfaction you will get from your career will matter more than anything.
