For this early habits should be developed. You can't start one month before exam. It would all be in vain. Generally develop a habit of reading newspapers as early as possible. It will be good if you read newspapers like The Hindu or The Indian Express as these cover sensible news unlike Times of India and it will also help you in improving your English. Generally read the newspaper thoroughly and try to develop your own opinion on the issues. It will be helpful for WATs for IIMs. You can use websites which have quizzes on current affairs. But don't waste too much time on it. Focus on your main preparation properly. So in short, read newspapers daily for half or one hour and develop your own opinions on issues and try to discuss/debate about the same with your friends or classmates.

Preparation can be three types: Self, self plus coaching and coaching. It depends whether you are working or a student. So if you are working you have to prepare either by self-using the correspondence booklets or you can take option of taking weekend coaching classes or you can buy some famous books used for preparation of MBA entrance exams. But if you are a student then you have good amount of time to prepare so you can use the correspondence courses and books initially for self-preparation and later can join coaching classes for brushing up your preparation with added techniques. So any MBA entrance exam have generally three sections-Quantitative aptitude, logical reasoning and data interpretation and Verbal reasoning along with study of general current affairs. So depending upon your strengths, weakness and speed prepare the three sections accordingly and nail the exam.

For the purpose of preparing for this section, there is no particular method. You have to keep yourself up to date as to whats happening around you and be aware of the current affairs, whether National or International. Best way to prepare for general awareness is by regularly reading newspapers, political and business magazines. Preparing for general awareness section is not an overnight activity, it is a process. General knowledge and awareness need to be built in course of time. To improve general knowledge for written exam as well as the GD/PIs keep a close watch on the major political, corporate, sports, economy, national-international events for last one year. Many of the MBA entrance exams ask questions on advertisements, current awareness etc. Hence, one should also watch television in a disciplined manner so that you don't miss out on these details. Watching informative TV channels like Discovery, National Geographic etc. and news channels are also useful in this regard.
