There are three stages - Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor. To become a professor of any college/ University in India you need to first complete your Master’s degree with 55% marks for general candidates and 50% marks for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates as this this minimum criteria for appearing in UGC NET exam. Once you have completed your Master’s degree in the desired field you can apply for UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) or SLET (State Level Eligibility Test). After clearing NET or SLET, candidates can apply for assistant professor post in any university across the country. Difference between NET and SLET – After clearing NET you can apply for all the universities across the country. After clearing SLET you can apply for all the universities under the purview of a particular state government. According to UGC guidelines in 2016: There is a relaxation in appointment to those candidates who have registered for M.Phil / PhD candidates before July 11, 2009. The exemption is only valid if the candidate has fulfilled certain conditions including his/her PhD degree should be awarded in regular mode, the research thesis should have been evaluated by at least two external examiners, the candidate should have appeared for viva-voce and have published at least two papers based on the Ph.D. thesis in research journals and, lastly, the candidate should also have made at least two presentations at conferences or seminars.

You should pursue for MBA and apply for M.Ed after MBA. For becoming a lecturer and faculty, M.Ed is compulsory and if you do it after MBA, you will get additional benefit of Management. Also, opt for M.Ed in Management.
