In a single sentence, I can say "You should have Ph.D degree to become professor in any engineering college". :) But let me explain you the step by step procedure to become a professor. Path 1 :First finish your Master's then you can join as Assistant professor. After 5 years of experience you will be promoted to Associate professor. After five years of experience as Associate you supposed to be promoted as Professor but here in this you will remain as Associate as you have not done Ph.D. So to do Ph.D you can two ways 1. You can do Ph.D while working as Assistant/Associate under some normal University. 2. You can do Ph.D in well reputed colleges like IITs/NITs through QIP (Quality improvement program by AICTE). Here you will some 60-70% of your salary during Ph.D period+UGC Assistantship. But it is not that easy to get QIP. Path 2: At stretch finish M.Tech and Ph.D. Many people in IITs fallow this path. But even after Ph.D you have to work as Assistant+Associate( for 10 years). Note : Above things not applicable for IITs/NITs. You need to have Minimum Ph.D+2 years of work experience. Promotions are based on number of journals published etc. All the best.

One can become a faculty in an engineering college by qualifying M.Ed Specialized in Educational Technology or PhD in Engineering or Technology. For that, one need to qualify graduation with post-graduation in Engineering. After that, he/she will pursue B.Ed and thereafter M.Ed/PhD.
