In an academic context BCA is undergraduate degree programs that prepare students to meet the computer technology needs of business, government, healthcare, schools, and other kinds of organizations. BCA is a job oriented degree course and you can go for job immediately after BCA in Small and Medium size IT companies. The general eligibility criteria to be eligible for applying for BCA course is 10+2 from a recognised board of education or equivalent, with minimum 50% marks in total and also having Mathematics as subject in the qualifying examination. Some colleges such as government universities such as IGNOU allow non-maths students to seek admission in BCA. Admission in IGNOU is based on minimum marks in 10+2. Admission process for admission in BCA varies from state to state. Most of state education department or government universities conduct their own entrance examination for admission in BCA. Candidates seeking admission in BCA are advised to appear in multiple BCA entrance examinations.

A degree program, BCA Bachelor of computer application is a three year program to train students in the field of information technology and software development. The admission are offered by various institutes/colleges across the country which include both private and government institutes. The admission process is pretty much the same however the eligibility and criteria do differ, as it would always be an advantage to get admission in a government institutes as the fee would be less and the recognition will be better than a lot of private sector colleges. The admission in a few government colleges happens through IPUCET, SET, etc. entrance exams and in some cases the admission is on basis of the merit list. The generic eligibility for the BCA course is 10+2 with minimum 45% pass marks and English as a core subjects. Some institutes also have a criteria for maths as a mandate subject to be able to apply for BCA.

For admission to BCA course, a student must fulfill the basic eligibility criteria as mentioned above. Admission to regular BCA course is generally done through a common entrance test conducted by respective universities. CETs are a few entrance tests conducted by some top institutes for providing admission to the course. Application process for BCA entrance test usually starts in the month of May and June. Students have to apply to respective institutes in both online as well as offline modes. BCA entrance test is generally of objective type. Certain institutes allow lateral entry to candidates in the second year of the program. For lateral entry, a student must have passed 10+2 and have done a computer course of minimum 6 months duration. Students with a three year diploma in IT from State Board of Technical Education are also eligible for lateral entry to BCA program.
