Career as a Deck Officer can be secured by the following three methods: Method 1 Diploma in Nautical Sciences Course leading to BSc in Nautical Science Eligibility Min HSC with 60% marks in PCM and 50% in English ( or BSc, BE, Btech), age between 17 25 years, Medical as per ILO standards Additional Indian Maritime Institute(IMU) CET score conducted in Dec and Jun every year at around 15 centres in India Conducted at various institutes affiliated to IMU starting in Feb and Aug each year- fees generally ranging between 6-8 Lakh Duration: 12 months training in institute Sea time: 18 months onboard training to qualify for appearing for Second Mates examination (written and orals) Method 2 B Sc Nautical Science Course Eligibility Min HSC with 60% marks in PCM and 50% in English age between 17 25 years, Medical as per ILO standards Additional Indian Maritime Institute(IMU) CET score - conducted in Dec and Jun every year at around 15 centres in India additionally the IIT JEE entrance for joining some Govt Institutes. Conducted at various institutes affiliated to IMU starting in Aug each year- fees generally ranging between 8-10 Lakh Duration: 36 months training in institute Sea time: 12 months onboard training to qualify for appearing for Second Mates examination (Orals only) Method 3 HND Nautical Science Course (MCA UK) Eligibility Pass in HSC and min 50% in English age between 17 25 years, Medical as per ILO standards Conducted at Very few Institutes in India starting in Jan and Sept each year- fees generally ranging between 13-15 Lakh Duration: 12 months in training Institute in India, 12 months in Maritime College in UK Sea time: 12 months onboard training to qualify for appearing for Second Mates examination (UK)
