To simply put the answer, 'No'. You need not prepare separately for both exams. Preparing for CAT will ensure you have prepared 85% for CMAT as well. The syllabus would be General Knowledge section for which you should read current affairs. This can easily be covered by newspapers and magazines. Apart for regular CAT study the other thing must to cover CMAT is practicing mock papers for CMAT. This will ensure that you know the format of the exam and are well prepared for it. Keep in mind the only key to hack the exams is hard work.

If you are preparing for CAT your work is almost over for CMAT. I was also a student who prepared for CAT immediately after my graduation. The important things which you should look into while preparing for this exam are as follows: 1. Select one of the best coaching centers which offer quality education- TIME is one of the famous coaching centers for CAT. 2. Dedication- Be focused on the aim which you need to achieve. 3. Try to read Hindu newspaper editorial. Most of the passages which appear in CAT are from Hindu editorial. 4. Try to maximum number of online mock test. You will definitely clear CAT by doing the above. 5. Try to read as much as you can and make note of points. 6. Revision of each week topics is very important. 7. Mathematical ability questions will be little twisted try to do as faster as you can.

Major difference between CAT and CMAT is of General Knowledge questions, CAT question paper does not include GK questions, on the other hand, CMAT has questions regarding GK, so you need to prepare for that additionally if appearing for CMAT, for which you have to read daily newspaper and you can also refer Lucents general knowledge book. Other than that everything remains same and yes CMAT exam is quite easy then CAT paper, so you need not worry much regarding other things, if you are preparing hard for CAT you are definitely going to crack CMAT, with a little preparation of GK, with a good score. Practise as much as you can on daily basis and try to solve as many sample question paper as you can. Try to solve question paper within the stipulated time as you will face in the exam hall.

No, not necessary. You can focus your studies for CAT and if you are able to focus on all aspects of learning then studying separately for CMAT is not required. You need to retain what you study.
