See, for the central government controlled government colleges, the admission is done through AIR only but in the state government colleges, admission is done through their technical exam only.

It is based on the AIR rank for General candidates and Category ranks for SC/ST/OBC-NCL candidates. A new quota for non creamy layer of General Candidates has also been implemented by the Government of India.

There is a common rank list and category rank list too. Reservation category by way of normalisation gets seat at comparatively lesser marks than unreserved.

Admission is based on category ranks. Hence, there are opening and closing ranks of each category displayed after every round of counselling.
