You will spend at least 2 years in Diploma even if you get lateral entry and then next 3 years in B tech id you get through lateral entry making it 5 years. However, there are limited seats in 2nd year engineering degree that means you will have lesser choice. Instead if you completely focus on your study and reappear for your 10+2 exam and prepare for entrance exam such as JEE you have multiple choice of option such as NITs, IITs, IIITs, JNTU, VJTI , CoE pune and so on apart from other colleges . Yes, you will take a risk of a year what if your percentage again does not improve. in that case you may need to think is engineering seriously something you wanted to do?
