Petroleum engineering is a niche field of engineering concerned with the activities related to the production of hydrocarbons, which can be either crude oil or natural gas. India has very well developed Petrochemical Industry including Petroleum & gas both in Government and private sector. It is core sector with lot of Government and big corporate houses support. Petroleum l Engineers have good scope in India and abroad. However, you must take into consideration that Petroleum engineering has historically been one of the highest paid engineering disciplines, although there is a tendency for mass layoffs in private sector worldwide when oil prices decline.
