Ethical? - I am not sure if can answer on the ethicality. Having said that, in our country the principle of "Survival of Fittest" is always true and hence in many ways parents have the responsibility to prepare children for future in the best possible manner. Engineering certainly helps assure them of a better future and somewhat better social status. Also, bear in mind, engineering is perhaps the only branch of study that can get you job fastest compared to any other stream of study, whether it is - medical, law, commerce, humanities or anything else. Four years of study after 12th and minimum social status is almost assured.
