If you are ambitious, your career is on the upswing, and you are looking to turbo-charge your resume, an Executive MBA (EMBA) is something you might want to consider. Unlike a full-time MBA, where the students are younger and relatively inexperienced, an EMBA program is designed for professionals who have at least six to seven years work experience. Best of all, it's a flexible program that allows you to keep your full-time job while earning your degree. In spite of its nomenclature, an EMBA is not aimed at executives (I.e. the privileged few perched at the top echelons of the company) at all and is apt for anyone identified by either themselves or their organization as a future leader. The degree is aimed at anyone who is driven, keen to develop their managerial acumen, and wants to deepen their knowledge of the business. With a degree like this under your belt, you can go from being, say, a team leader, to someone involved in strategic thinking, leading large initiatives in your firm and becoming a key driver of business at work. Clearly, the degree paves the way for a huge shift in the role in the corporate world. Typically, seen as a career booster by professionals in finance, accounting, marketing and consulting, an EMBA is now sought by candidates looking to up their game in all sorts of domains. And why look only at the classic corporate paradigm. Many at this stage in their careers plan to turn entrepreneurs, and an EMBA is their ticket to running their own business. So an executive MBA from IIMs does worth if you have a defined objective for your career.

It depends on the person to person. If you are satisfied with your current position and work then there is no need to go for the executive MBA. Otherwise, if you are done with doing the same stuff over 5-6 years and want to go for a managerial senior position then just go for an executive MBA. It will be a great experience if you go for executive MBA because you will be surrounded by some of the best peers and it will be a great opportunity to build a network. Definitely, executive MBA from IIMs is a huge investment around 20 lakh rupees but ROI (return on investment) is also good. Just think for a longer period too. At the end, follow your heart and passion and go for what you are passionate about. Good luck. I hope this helps.

Unlike a full-time general MBA, where the students are freshers and comparatively young, an EMBA program is planned for professionals who have at least five to six years of work experience. In spite of its classification, an Executive MBA is not directed at executives at all and is apt for anyone recognized by either themselves or their company as a future leader. The degree is aimed at anyone who is motivated, keen to improve their managerial acumen, and wants to deepen their knowledge of the business. But, it is costly. Getting an Executive MBA comes at high personal and economic cost. It means balancing a full-time job with a meticulous educational program and, for many, family duties as well. With an EMBA under your belt, you can sharpen your business, managerial and administration skills; you are likely to skip a few levels on the corporate stairway on the way up; you will likely get promoted more quickly; you will probably be allotted more responsibilities at work, and you can more easily switch career tracks for better possibilities. It is just your choice. But if you are already stressed with your job, don't go for it. If you are content with your job, don't go for it. Otherwise, you are free to decide.

The fees for executive MBA from IIMs is around 18-20 LPA. So the question is about do you really need an executive MBA degree. The executive MBA program is generally for 1 year and people with 8+ years of work experience generally opt for. So if your current job is good and satisfies all your needs and wants, then no need to waste 20 LPA on executive MBA. But if you have worked enough in an industry and you think you understand the industry and want to change you job profile, for example from technical to managerial position or looking for getting to the top positions in your firm then EPGP can help. Again you have to see if you are passion is driving your decision or not. The average package is around 20-25 LPA. So if your current job pays considerably less than this and you aren't that into the job then you can go for it.
