Although, it's not a good option to choose the distance and open learning. But if you are working in the same industry or pursuing another short-term course then it's not a bad idea to choose the same.

Bachelor's degree in journalism and mass comm. from distance learning is offered by a number of institutions and universities all over India as BJMC degree. It needs a balanced view rather than simply rejecting one or accepting one. Distance education is meant to substitute the absence of regular education of any degree when the learner is, for all valid reasons, unable to pursue regular studies. Secondly, distance education is a better option when one already has skills to work with along with some experience as well.Skill-based and skill oriented course/subject) shall be avoided as much possible. This is also to be accepted that distance education has more failures in its credit in India. Just a couple of days back, Haryana government terminated the services of those who did a technical degree through distance mode. It was as per Supreme Court's ruling. I wish to suggest that if possible, do this course as a regular student, and from a good institution.

Journalism and mass communication emphasizes on theoretical as well as practical study and distance learning program is not the right option to go for. Bachelor of Journalism and mass communication can't be confined into just cramming and writing it on the exam date, it is much more than that. One needs to understand the in-depth culture of mass media industry and it can only be done if you expose yourself to it. The three-year course constitutes of a number of subjects with an internship to be done at the end of each year in print, broadcast and communication firms. The academic structure also includes project work for every semester and a lot of research, creativity goes behind it. For this, you need mentoring and guidance. So, this course is implementing what you have learned through books. Mass media involves a lot of technicalities and you learn them by your own experiences. A student during this course understands the communication industry, mold himself/ herself accordingly, and identify the opportunities apt for him/her after completion. This might be pretty difficult with distance learning.

I would say, it is better to not to try for distance learning of this course, because this subject has lot of practical papers, for which a student needs to be at the institution regularly. It cannot be taught once a month. A student needs to practice all the practical papers, those papers not only help to teach but also help to fetch marks. If you apply for distance learning then you might not learn very well in this subject. This subjects has multiple papers like advertising, reporting, editing, video production, public relations, electronic media. For that, an institution should conduct a regular practical session. Distance learning will not help to learn everything in detailed manner as journalism and mass communication is vast subject.
