Frankly speaking, piping is a hot cake job during peak oil demand, but during recession it's the worst job, skills of piping engineer are applicable nowhere, their knowledge is only useful where several kinds fluids flow in piping system namely acids, carcinogenic liquids, poisonous gases, caustic liquids, corrosive fluids, hydrogen & very high pressure jet, all these coexist in downstream industry not anywhere. There is no statistics available about demand of particular skill in India. At least, I am not aware. Even for freshers, no real statistics are available for job opportunities in different industries. In absence of this, it is just guesswork based on experience. We make impression. Lolling at gap between power requirement and availability we project that there will be prospects for power industry and thereby engineers with power skill. With the governmentt policy on make in India for military fighter planes we predict there will be demand for Aeronotics. Regarding piping design my logic is all industries power, oil and gas, chemical, petrochemical, steel etc. need huge piping in new projects. Piping engineering is now a science due to various materials, high temperature conditions, high pressure etc. very less engineers specialize in piping engineering with experience. That is why, I feel there is demand for mechanical engineers with piping design skills.
