Depending on your interests, core strengths and chosen career path, many postgraduate courses are open to you. You could explore courses in management, teaching, research, finance/banking, media, corporate communications, retail, hospitality etc. You can also take the Civil Services as well as the Indian Forest Service Exams with Physical science as one of the papers in the Mains examination. The field is intellectually exciting, being rich in phenomena and ideas, and has emerged as one of the major growth areas of physics. More than half of basic physics activity worldwide is in condensed matter. You could opt for a M.Sc in Physical science, biophysics, chemical physics, radio physics, astrophysics, Biotechnology, Chemistry, bioinformatics, microbiology, environmental science etc. After M.Sc, besides going in for research, you could also teach in colleges/universities for which the minimum requirement is M.Sc Physics and qualifying the UGC-CSIR NET for lectureship and JRF.You need a B.Ed to be able to teach at the school level. MSc followed by a B.Ed will enable you to teach at the high school level. M.Sc Physical sciences students are also eligible for pursuing M.Tech (in a host of engineering/technology disciplines including aeronautical, chemical, automobile, instrumentation, electronics & communication, or computer science at leading institutions including the IITs after taking the GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering). Postgraduate diplomas in leather, sugar, plastics, processing, packaging or environment technology are some other options you could look at. Explore all option and take a course in the best of your interest. The choice you make should depend on your long term and short term career objectives, aptitude, ability, personality and interests.
