Executive Master (EM) or Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) is an advanced level of master's degree designed especially for mid-career executive professionals. Common titles of the degree are executive master of arts, executive master of science or area specific titles like executive master of business administration, executive master of communication or Executive Master of Advanced Studies in Humanitarian Logistics and Management (MASHLM), etc. Executive master's programs are usually attended by full time working professionals, therefore the programs are scheduled to match this condition. Most executive master's programs run several full days (not more than a week) per month for the period of two or three years. So, yes it is very important to have work experience for admission in executive MBA/PGDM.

Yes, in top B-school to pursue executive MBA, work experience is mandatory, but not in the case of every B-school .It is one year program for working professional, So, as the word suggest, that you require work experience, if you want to pursue your degree program from top B-school . Minimum 3 year work experience is required to pursue MBA from top B-school. But, there are B-school which offers admission without any work experience to the student who want to take admission. But, the program is totally meant for the working candidate and not the normal candidate .So, I hope this would be enough to understand the difference between working candidate and normal candidate doing executive MBA or PGDM. Hope, this information helps. All the best.

Executive MBA/PGDM are for those professionals who want to fast track their career growth. MBA is offered by a university and PGDM is offered by those colleges which are not universities. For executive MBA/PGDM, experience is the first and must condition for admissions. The Amount of experience varies from 5 years to 10 years for admissions to various B-Schools like IIMs, etc. It is meant for the people who have gained a good amount of experience in their domain and working area. It helps in giving a new perspective to these professionals for career enhancement. Also, Executive PGDM/MBA increase their chances of promotions in their offices as well as shifting their domain into a new area but related to past experience. Some of the good corporate companies offer chances to their employees to go for executive MBA too while working.
