Most important topics to focus on while preparing for B.Arch exams. It has 2 parts. Part 1 being Mathematics & General Aptitude Part 2 being Drawing test. Part 1 Consists of - MATHEMATICS Algebra: Definitions of AP and GP; General term; Summation of first n-terms of series. Arithmetic/Geometric series, AM, GM and their relation; Infinite GP series and its sum. Logarithms: Definition; General properties; Change of base. Matrices: Concepts of m x n (m 3, n 3) real matrices, operations of addition, scalar multiplication and multiplication of matrices. Transpose of a matrix. The determinant of a square matrix. Properties of determinants (statement only). Minor, cofactor and adjoint of a matrix. Nonsingular matrix. The inverse of a matrix. Finding the area of a triangle. Solutions of system of linear equations. (Not more than 3 variables). Trigonometry: Trigonometric functions, addition and subtraction formulae, formulae involving multiple and sub-multiple angles, the general solution of trigonometric equations. Properties of triangles, inverse trigonometric functions and their properties. Coordinate geometry 3-Dimensional Co-ordinate geometry: Direction cosines and direction ratios, distance between two points and section formula, equation of a straight line, equation of a plane, distance of a point from a plane. Theory of Calculus Application of Calculus Permutation and combination Statistics and Probability GENERAL APTITUDE - Objects, texture related to architecture and built environment. Interpretation of pictorial compositions, visualizing three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawing. Visualizing different sides of 3D objects. Analytical reasoning, mental ability (visual, numerical and verbal), general awareness of national/ international architects Mathematical reasoning Sets and Relations Part 2 - DRAWING TEST Understanding of scale and proportion of objects, geometric composition, shape, building forms and elements, aesthetics, colour texture, harmony and contrast. Conceptualization and Visualization through structuring objects in memory. Drawing of patterns - both geometrical and abstract. Form transformations in 2D and 3D like union, subtraction, rotation, surfaces and volumes. Generating plan, elevation and 3D views of objects. Creating 2D and 3D compositions using given shape and forms. Perspective drawing, Sketching of urbanscape and landscape, common day-to-day life objects like furniture, equipment etc., from memory.

It would not be right to say that being good at drawing is a compulsion but you could say that as an architect one would have to give various projects, drawing plans, interior plans that can be shown to the clients. The drawing skills would definitely be an advantage that will take it to the next level to show your creativity. Some other skills can also include you to have 3D visualization to be able to imagine your plans well and show the necessary amendments required and a great sense of direction to plan the construction well. One should also possess good administrative skills and budgeting sense along with your knowledge of architecture. All these skills will build the basics of your career as an architect. Of course some other skills like time management, resource management, etc. are required generally for any career that one would wish to prepare.
