Two years back, I was in the same dilemma. It's really very hard to decide whether to choose a branch over a college or college over the branch. I was allotted a seat in Anna University, Chennai but the branch is average (I was not interested in it). So I opted for CSE in a central university just because I was interested in it. You have to deal with what you choose throughout your whole life. Different people will have different point of views but again if I have to choose it, I will settle down with the same choice. So, choose according to your interest. Every branch of engineering has its own beauty and benefits. In short, choosing branch over college will be a good choice. Hope it helped!

This is a question faced by many students even when selecting branches for a degree course. Should you give preference to college or branch. So here it is. There are two ways to look at this problem. First one is for general people who don't have any fixed goals in their mind while taking admission. The only goal is to become successful (true for most of us). So for people like us, I will suggest what my coaching's director suggested - as long as you don't have any specific goals in your mind give preference to a better college over a branch. I also have realised till now that brand name of college matters a lot. Whenever you are in the outside world, it is a tag that stays with you. So college over the branch. But if you are passionate about some particular branch/specialisation then give preference to it over the college. If you do so make sure you study whole heartedly for the entire course and try to remain among the top in your class. So those are your options. Think properly and decide. All the best!

Its based upon your interest in field after your graduation the knowledge and project the top specialisation from an average college or B.Tech specialisation from top college both are good and the main matter is specialisation which is best doesn't matter with college at all.

The dilemma of choosing an average specialization of good college or an average college with average specialization branch is the one faced by thousands of engineering aspirants appearing in competitive branches. See, almost every college has a provision for students to get their branch changed after the first year of engineering depending upon their score and performances in the first semester. One irritating point is the inclusion of quota system in this provision also. This might give the category students with same or lower score an upper hand over the ones with no category with a comparatively good score. Still, what so ever if you score well in the first year of engineering then you might have a fair chance to switch to a better branch. Also, nowadays, projects and studies are merging into interdisciplinary ones, so a good college might be able to provide you a good perspective. If a college is good then it has some established infra and better faculties. It might provide you with opportunities out of the box. If you are pursuing higher studies then the tag of tier 1 or tier 2 college with average branch can be for once unaccounted for. One more thing, if you are only inclined towards the placement then make sure that you check the average placement of that specific branch. Check the respective college website if the average specialization in the good college has good placements. If not then I suggest you should opt for the average college having the good branch with high packages and good job opportunities. Good colleges have well-qualified professors and highly established labs and provide ample of opportunities to the students just by the tag of the college. Also what matters is the location of the college and its connectivity. You should consult very carefully with the seniors and alumnus of the respective colleges and see if the college has to offer good opportunities in terms of placements and internships in the areas inclines to your areas of interest and studies. So Don't go for the irrelevant suggestions of friends or any individual, talk to seniors, and check college and branch for the placements and internship and other opportunities and make your decision wisely because one chosen college, you might be stuck with that for rest of your life. I personally recommend going to a good college with average specialization as you always have a very fair chance to change branch in the first year if you score well. Hope that helps. All the best.
