Documentary production is an area of expertise where the scope for a skilled a documentary maker-producer is unending. As you have asked about whether to pursue a career or a job after a course in documentary, the answer is not to leave the prospects of a job which are coming your way. Higher studies must be kept as a preferred option when you fail to get a job or you want to pursue higher studies in real. A vocational course like this one has to be a way to get into a real job. When one joins a job in this field of production and making, the actual experience is that. Hence, our first preference must be a good job after the aforesaid course. This is also to be noted that Higher Studies do not do any harm to your career however, these may delay your time of joining a job. If you are trying for higher studies (as your current course is just a basic or entry level course) then try for reputed institutions like FTI, AAFT, IIMC, etc.

Hello! Since you have not done any advanced course in documentary production, you must have to go for doing the job. Because this job will not just give you the real insights but also will make you prepare for the further continuation of your studies. My advise will be to go for a job and then after for higher studies. (#) Doing a job will give you the more relevant knowledge of this field. (#) You can save a big chunk of money to cope up with the major and minor expenses of your studies. You have just studied the documentary production, hence there are many possibilities that you are unaware of the real projects that a company faces. You can get more knowledge you have to jump in the film and video editing business. This will not just make you financially independent and stable but also it will give your additional preference when you will go to apply for the further continuation of your higher studies. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I believe, you must work after completing your course. Produce a few amateur style documentaries, get your hands dirty on the ground and that's when you will know what you exactly require to be the best in your field. Experience is the best trainer in such a creative and practical course and that's why it's important to know more before you study further. Also, this bit of experience will help you figure out which area of documentary/film production you are most interested in. And if you focus on the bit you are naturally most inclined to, it will result in a better career ahead for you.
