Wireless technology is a relatively new and rapidly changing area of communications. Wireless is a term used to describe telecommunications in which electromagnetic waves (rather than some form of wire) carry the signal over parts or the entire communication path. Common examples of wireless equipment in use today include Cellular phones and pagers: Global Positioning System, Cordless computer peripherals, Cordless telephone sets, Home-entertainment-system control boxes, Remote devices, two-way radios, Wi-Fi, Satellite television, Wireless LANs or local area networks, etc. Wireless technology is rapidly evolving and is playing an increasing role in the lives of people throughout the world directly or indirectly. Currently, wireless communication engineers’ jobs are found with mobile companies, cable television providers, DTH, internet service providers, device manufacturing and retail outlets that sell wireless devices and services. Careers in wireless communications range from customer service, R&D engineers, installation engineer, operations, product development, etc. Most of the jobs are for ECE engineers with growth opportunities from engineers to department head. Wireless experts have job opportunities in PSU, Defense services, paramilitary forces, Railways, DRDO/ISRO, etc., telecommunication regulatory bodies, etc. Indian Engineering Services is also an option for wireless engineers.
