Social work is an academic and professional discipline that seeks to facilitate the welfare of communities, individuals, families, and groups. It may promote social change, development, cohesion, and empowerment. Underpinned by theories of social sciences, and guided by principles of social justice, human rights, collective responsibility, and respect for diversities, social work engages people and structures to address life challenges and enhance well-being. A practicing professional with a degree in social work is called a social worker. There are good opportunities for Social workers in Government sector. Public Sector Banks, Public Sector Units, Semi Government bodies etc. have lot of opening in their CSR department for BSW and MSW graduates. In addition, these social workers have opening in both state and central government social development ministries such as HRD, Women Welfare and Child Care, Health, Environment etc. In addition, MSW graduates after Ph.D can take career in field of education and research in Government universities and institutions.

After UG, one can join women and children welfare department. After PG, one can appear in CBSE NET to become a professor in this branch. There are job opportunities in private sector too, especially private NGOs give immense job opportunities.
