B.Tech in civil engineering is a 4-year course for 12th pass students and B.Arch is a 5-year course for 12th pass students. B.Tech in civil engineering deals with planning, construction and maintenance of structures such as buildings, roads, stadiums, dams, etc. Aspirant learns about making and planning of structure for personal and social use. B.Arch deals with design, planning and construction of buildings and other physical structures. Basically, both are doing the job of construction and planning but B.Arch pass outs think design in mind and design on paper and Civil engineers think how to make and make the design happen in reality. Architects sees how the design works, care about colour, shape and civil engineers see how to make structure safe and strong for a long time.

First, you must understand that civil engineering is much more than constructing buildings. The various branches of civil engineering are: +Structural Engineering-Deals with the mechanics of making the structure stand +Transportation Engineering- Deals with optimization problems to find the best route and construction of roadways, railways etc. +Geo-technical Engineering- Deals with construction of foundations, deep tunnels and other underground stuffs +Hydraulic and Water-Resources engineering- Deals with transportation of water and other resources, construction of canals, dams etc. +Environmental engineering- The name says it all, save the planet. +Building Technology and Construction Management - Coordinates the activities of all the above so that the design comes alive. The Architects' job: Go maximum creative, you are not bound by the laws of physics. Neglect them and design the building. Get mad, creative! Then, you give your design to the civil engineer. The civil engineer will take care of Newtons' laws and other physics.

Hello! Earlier, it was a notion that civil engineers and architectures are same but as the industries are diversified, the course structure also and hence, the difference between the B.Tech Civil Engineering and B.Arch are specified. We can say that B.Arch is the subset of civil engineering. If you pursue doing civil engineering, you will learn about the physical and infrastructural components of a Building wheares in B.Arch, you will learn the physical or interior designing of building. The person with B.Tech Civil Engineering degree is a pure engineer who apply all the scientific tools to make the building stand but candidate with B.Arch degree are actually artistic who guides that 'How the building looks? So, apart from these, there is one more difference between B.Tech civil and B.Arch of diversification. In B.Arch, you cannot easily change your domain because you are specialised in one thing only but in civil engineering, you can since it is the combination of different sub groups. I hope this helps. Best of luck.
