After completing 12th, you can go for a degree in mass communication. Public relations (PR) is the use of communications channels to manage public perception of an individual or an organisation. A PR person not only should have flair for writing but should be someone who communicates well. He/she must be well-equipped with the updates of media industry. Management and planning are the skills that are required to keep you upfront. PR can be used to protect, enhance or build reputations through the media, social media, or self-produced communications. The tools include preparing and disseminating press releases, media pitches, creating and executing events designed for public outreach and media relations, crisis PR strategies and social media promotions. Bachelor of mass media is a good option and yes, it is considered a legitimate degree outside India.

You can pursue a degree in mass communication after completing class 12th. PR is an intense and difficult job that can be rewarding and disappointing. It can be exciting, and mind-numbingly boring. PR, more often than not, is misunderstood by people outside of the industry. Increasingly, the lines between PR, marketing, and advertising are becoming more blurred, taking the industry into a new direction. In short, once you get below the surface, PR is not what it appears to be from the outside. To be a PR person, I feel you need to possess a certain skill set that can be broken down into two categories: human skills and professional skills. Human skills include things such as patience and congeniality, while professional skills include the ability to speak publicly and write professionally. Yes, BMM is considered a legitimate outside India and you can pursue the same.
