Average salary entirely depends on "what you can offer to companies". It's not a typical undergraduate programme where companies will hire masses and train them to different departments/verticals. The standards expected of you by companies which hires you will be quite high. There are students (a minority) who join the college every year simply for the placement guarantee. Especially for a Bachelor's course, I personally don't really think this is a good sign. The maximum pay package offered to students this year was 21 lakh per annum and the minimum - 7 lakh per annum. An average of 10 to 15 lakh per annum is usually the package but then again it depends on the student; the extra effort put in by that individual is eventually what companies look for. Company offering good placements are : Johnson & Johnson, Inmobi, Kaybus, Amazon, DSquare, Mphasis, O9 Solutions, Thorogood, Morgan Stanley, Walmart Labs, Vmware, Informatica, Azul Systems, Mathworks, Kodiak Networks, National Instruments, Microsoft, Taxi For Sure, Flipkart, IBM.

Frankly, there is a lot of variance between the salary offered by companies among various sectors. Finance companies take the top spot in remuneration amount which can be an upward of Rs 12 lakhs per annum average. Such companies which include Goldman Sachs, Tower Research Capital, World Quant, each offering over Rs 20 lakhs per annum gross packages. Tech companies taking in computer science students also dole out huge salary packages typically in the range Rs 10 to Rs 20 lakhs per annum. Google, Facebook, Sony come under this category. Then come the consultancy firms which offer an average of Rs 11 to Rs 12 lakhs per annum (Booz, Bain, McKinsey, etc). Of course, there is a sporadic scatter of non-CS tech companies in the Rs 10lpa+ category like Schlumberger. The remaining companies, including another tech, analytics, software development firms, etc. which actually comprise a huge chunk of the list, typically offer packages in the range of Rs 4 to Rs 9 lakhs per annum. Hence, the minimum expected package is Rs 3 lakhs per annum with startups coming for the bottom percentile of students.
