Python is a general-purpose programming language created in the late 1980s and named after Monty Python, that's used by thousands of people to do things from testing microchips at Intel to powering Instagram, to building video games with the PyGame library. Its small, very closely resembles the English language, and has hundreds of existing third-party libraries. Python is used for - 1. Web Development: Django and Flask are used extensively in building various services. Django - The most popular web framework in Python. Flask - A microframework for Python 2. Machine Learning: It has a plethora of libraries implementing machine learning algorithms. Some being PyBrain - Another Python Machine Learning Library. Pylearn2 - A Machine Learning library based on Theano. scikit-learn - A Python module for machine learning built on top of SciPy. OpenCV - Open Source Computer Vision Library. SimpleCV - An open source framework for building computer vision applications. NLTK - A leading platform for building Python programs to work with human language data. 3. DevOps Tools Software and libraries for DevOps. Ansible - A radically simple IT automation platform. SaltStack - Infrastructure automation and management system. Fabric - A simple, Pythonic tool for remote execution and deployment. cuisine - Chef-like functionality for Fabric. 4. Databases : Databases implemented in Python. pickleDB - A simple and lightweight key-value store for Python. PipelineDB - The Streaming SQL Database. TinyDB - A tiny, document-oriented database. 5. Scripting: If you want to automate something which you have been doing manually for some time, it's not very hard to automate it once you know the basic syntax of this language. A practical example of Python - Monovar, the computer program written in Python created to beat cancer. It's an algorithm which helps in providing a more personalized treatment to cancer patients by pinpointing important variations in a single cancer cell. So, we can use it even to save the life. Python is widely used in scientific and numeric computing: SciPy - is a collection of packages for mathematics, science, and engineering. Pandas - is a data analysis and modeling library. IPython - is a powerful interactive shell that features easy editing and recording of a work session, and supports visualizations and parallel computing.

Python is a general purpose programming language created in the late 1980s. The language closely resembles the English language and has many applications. Python is being used widely these days but some are unaware of that. Some of the applications are: 1. GUI-Based Desktop Applications: The various applications developed using Python includes: a) Image Processing and Graphic Design Applications such as Inkscape, GIMP, cinema 4D, Scribus. b) Scientific and Computational Applications: 3D modeling software, such as FreeCAD, and finite element method software, such as Abaqus, are coded in Python. c) Games: PySoy is a 3D game engine supporting Python 3 and several other gaming applications. 2. Web Frameworks and Web Applications: Python has been used to create a variety of web-frameworks including CherryPy, Django, TurboGears, Bottle, Flask etc 3. Operating Systems: Python is often an integral part of Linux distributions. For instance, Ubuntus Ubiquity Installer, and Fedoras and Red Hat Enterprise Linuxs Anaconda Installer are written in Python. 4. Development of computer languages: Pythons design and module architecture has influenced development of numerous languages. Boo language uses an object model, syntax and indentation, similar to Python. There are still more many applications. But, these are the primary applications for which Python is predominantly used.
