Automobile engineering comes under mechanical engineering or we can also say that automobile engineering is a sub-branch of mechanical engineering. In mechanical engineering, you will get to know all about mechanism, design and operation of machinery, whereas in automobile engineering you will get to know about vehicle engineering and deals it with construction and design of automobiles. One more thing I want to let you know, that if you go for mechanical engineering then in future you can switch over to automobile engineering. The career prospects for both these branches are quite high.

Automobile engineering is a branch of Mechanical engineering, where you'll deal mostly with automobile, whereas in Mechanical engineering, you'll deal with all machines and its design and then many more basics. Difference according to study- In mechamical engineering you will learn every mechanical object or machines out there in the world. You will have more generalised subjects like theory of machines, dynamics and kinetics of machines etc. In short, you will have machine oriented problems. While in Automobile engineering you will learn Automobile IC engines, Vehicle Dynamics, Vehicle kinematics, etc, thus having more automotive oriented approach. Difference according to career opportunities You can get job more easily with degree of Mechanical engineer than Automobile engineer. Truth being that every firm prefers mechanical Er. over Automobile Er. Even some automobile companies prefer Mech. Er. If you are looking for masters in Automobile engineering, this can be a good option.

Automobile engineering is a branch of mechanical engineering where you'll deal mostly with an automobile, whereas in mechanical engineering, you'll deal with all machines and its design and then many more basics. But literally, both are same, no big difference. All you've to do is a thorough study of the applications.
