TGT or Trained Graduate Teacher exams can be taken by candidates who have completed their graduation and are deemed to obtain a degree. Ideally, the candidates who have successfully completed B.Com, BA and B.Sc are qualified to take the exams. On the other hand, PGT exams are a step higher and require the candidates to have successfully completed the post graduate degree- B.Com, BA, B.Sc etc. Both these exams are conducted to make oneself eligible for teaching roles in private and public schools. TGT makes one eligible to teach at primary level, whereas for secondary and senior secondary level class, you need to be a PGT. The government of India has different pay bands for both, and the PGT is more lucrative giving you a higher pay band. The demand for both PGT and TGT is pretty high due to the opening of number of schools in India especially in the tier 1 cities.

TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) is a title given to teachers who have completed their graduation degree and training in teaching such as BEd. TGT are employed as teachers to teach class up to X in both central and state government schoools. PGT (Post Graduate Teacher) are teachers with post-graduate qualifications and educational training who can teach up to class XII. For example A B.Sc-BEd student is eligible for TGT roles in Government and private schools to teach Science subjects up to class X. Whereas, M.Sc-BEd is eligible for PGT roles in Government and private schools to teach Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Biology etc to classes up to XII classes. PGT have better salary and perks over TGT teachers. PGT teachers have career opportunities to grow as scholl principal and administrators, Therefore, for long term career growth PGT is a better career n over TGT.
