As travelling has become more affordable, less time consuming and as more and more people have started earning, more than what the annual per capita income used to be a few decades ago, the tourism industry is booming in India. More and more people from rural areas and a lot of elders too want to travel abroad and explore new places. But, not many travelers are well versed with foreign languages, or even English, which is the universally spoken language, for that matter. To solve these problems, a tour officer or a tour manager comes into picture. His typical job profile would include being the representative, translator, guide, and travel assistant for these new generation of tourists. A tour manager would generally be trained in dealing with hotels and local guides of the country he specializes in. He would get the guests checked in to the hotel, arrange Indian food of food of their choice to the guests, arrange for foreign currencies and take care of any mishaps or urgencies that may occur during the trip. Lately, it has become a desired profession as not only does it pay well, but also gives an opportunity to travel to various countries for free.
