12th is the basic requirement for any course. Your scope will become limited if you opt for polytechnic.

If you have sound financial condition, then you should take your proper education. If not, then you can go for polytechnic.

Doing Polytechnic will give you Diploma after three years. This will enable you to get a job and start earning. But your routes of doing any graduation except engineering will be blocked. On the other hand, post doing HSC, your paths of doing graduation in any subject remain open. You can, in fact, do graduation in engineering also. But it takes much longer to begin earning. So, depending on your financial constraints and goals, you should select an option. Do well and be the best.

After 10th, you should do Polytechnic and in 2nd year of Polytechnic, you should go for 12th as a private candidate because if we compare 12th and Polytechnic, Polytechnic is far better for government job and engineering field jobs. There are lot of career opportunities after Polytechnic rather than the 10+2. I would recommend Polytechnic in core branches (electrical, mechanical) is much better.

Polytechnic will give you good opportunities to study further in technical field. Class 12th will also give you good opportunities to get into different fields of study, so choose the way according to your purpose.

If you are interested in engineering field, then you can go for polytechnic. If you have interest in any other field, then you must go for class 12th because you can get number of opportunities after completing PUC. All the best.
