If you want to qualify gate from good score then prepare yourself from the 3rd semester. Their are some subject in 1st year which you should study carefully and deeply according to your branch. strengthen your basics and start making notes from 3rd sem.

One should start preparing for GATE from 3 year and 5 semester itself as the questions in GATE normally comes from 3rd year syllabus and some questions from 2 year syllabus also.
