The most important topics to focus on for the CAT preparations are as follows: Quantitative Aptitude (QA) Number System: Ensure that you are clear with the basic concepts of this topic. Arithmetic: Though Arithmetic has a vast number of sub-topics, in the last 3 years, only a couple of questions have featured from this topic. Algebra: Considering this has been one of the most dominant topics in CAT in the last three years, it makes a lot of sense to place extra emphasis on this topic. Geometry: Another topic which has featured quite a lot in the last few years. Permutation & Combination/Probability: This is another topic that contributes around one to two questions to the exam. Miscellaneous Topics: This includes Set Theory, Trigonometry, and Logarithms Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR) Data Sufficiency Bar Graph Tables Case-lets Pi-charts Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VRC) Fact Inference Judgment Fill in the blanks Grammar Para Completion Para Jumble Sentence Correction Verbal Reasoning Word Usage (Vocabulary) Hope it helps.

The most important topics to focus on CAT Fundamentals/ Number systems. Nearly 10 questions are asked from this chapter. So, give maximum time to this chapter. Time speed and distance-2 questions (moderate to hard) Time and work-1 question (easy) PNC, probability-3 questions compulsory (moderate) Logarithms-2 questions (easiest of the lot). Note that one of these questions may be included in number systems. Profit, loss and discounts-12 questions (moderate) CI/SI-12 questions (easy to moderate) Percentages-Don't leave this chapter as it is very beneficial to solve the DI questions. Note-I suggest you not to give too much time on geometry. Although 34 questions will surely be coming from geometry, it is a vast syllabus. It takes a lot of time to completely grasp the understanding of the different patterns of questions. So, if you are good at it then only go for it. It is advisable to leave it. Wish you luck. Cheers.

The Data Interpretation (DI) section and the Logical Reasoning (LR) section are pretty standard and unforeseeable at the same time. Standard because in DI, the questions will for sure be based on graphs, pie charts and tables and the questions will be very data and calculation intensive. In LR, the questions are based on linear and circular arrangements, sequencing, family relations, etc. Quantitative Ability (QA) consists of a variety of 10th grade maths questions with increased tricks to trap you. The questions will be based on Algebra, number systems, geometry, probability, P&C etc. Verbal Ability (VA) will consist of majorly Reading Comprehension questions with passages from various topics, Critical Reasoning questions, Paragraph rearrangement etc. Make sure you practice mock tests in a timed and religious manner. Practice mental calculations a lot.

Common Admission Test is one of the toughest exams which a student can face. If you are preparing for CAT then no need of separate work for MAT. The Syllabus is almost same. I was also a student who prepared for CAT immediately after my graduation. The important things which you should look into while preparing for this exam are as follows: 1. Select one of the best coaching centers which offer quality education- TIME is one of the famous coaching centers for CAT. 2. Dedication- Be focused on the aim which you need to achieve. 3. Try to read Hindu newspaper editorial. Most of the passages which appear in CAT are from Hindu editorial. 4. Try to maximum number of online mock test. You will definitely clear CAT by doing the above. 5. Try to read as much as you can and make note of points. 6. Revision of each week topics is very important. 7. Mathematical ability questions will be little twisted try to do as faster as you can.

You cannot answer the question with certainty as the important topics keep changing year to year. But, topics from which questions invariably are asked year on year include: 1. Quantitative Ability: Algebra, Number system (very important), sets, PnC and probability. About 3-5 questions on geometry are also asked every year. Trigonometry can be skipped. Do learn tricks like divisibility rules to solve question on remainder etc. 2. Data Interpretation- Pie chart- learn calculation techniques for pi chart, bar graphs and scatterplots. Vedic maths helps in DI as the sets here are time consuming. 3. VA/LR- Do practice syllogisms and RC. Reading speed is important. Read passages from different genres to have a better idea of the range of questions. Barrons top 1000 words for Vocabulary is a must as it helps in fill in the blanks and para completion. Basic grammar questions 4. A must do is to solve past 5 year questions of CAT
